I just can't accept it, it's too soon for Gary Moore to go :(
He was amazingly multitalented, awesome guitarist and great singer. His show was one of the best shows I've aver been to in my entire life!

The music legends I personally admire are not from my generation, so most of them are much older than me. It's sad that sometimes I have so little time to admire their work while they are here. Though music is something that makes you eternal, it will live forever.

Gary Moore will always be remembered,I am sure, deeply missed though...

“Sleeping in the fire” is a very beautiful song, though I suggest to listen to it in a better quality.
I love this acoustic version of it, the voice of Blackie Lawless sounds almost on the edge of madness of a man desperately yearning for his beloved, it makes the song really powerful yet emotional and sensual. Right now that I'm a little overemotional I’d listen to it hundreds of times over and over again, that's definitely my favorite song today.

My grand grandparents were there fighting and my grandparents were born in that awful time, they are "children of war", I know their stories and their pain and I keep it all in my heart. The girl (Ma, Li) was a beautiful promising professional ballerina when she lost her right arm in a car accident in 1996. She was only 19. Her handsome boy friend walked away from her. She tried to kill herself only to be saved by her parents. Her love for her parents gave her the strength to live. She learned how to live her life independently. She learned how to write Chinese beautifully and how to do many things including combing her hair, which she had to cut short from the waist-length to shoulder-length. She learned to cook and to wash clothes ... In a few months she opened her small bookstore. Five years later in 2001, she was invited to compete at the 5th national special performing art competition for handicaps and won the gold medal. That success gave her the hope to return to her beloved stage. In 2002, a handsome 20-year-old young man (Li, Tao) madly fell in love with her. She ran a way from him for fear of being hurt again. After she disappeared in Beijing, Tao searched her up and down despite his parents' strong objection and ridicule. Five years later in 2001, she was invited to compete at the 5th national special performing art competition for handicaps and won the gold medal. That success gave her the hope to return to her beloved stage. In 2002, a handsome 20-year-old young man (Li, Tao) madly fell in love with her. She ran a way from him for fear of being hurt again. After she disappeared in Beijing, Tao searched her up and down despite his parents' strong objection and ridicule. He finally found her dancing in a bar. They have never been separated since. They were very broke when SARS was spreading because all theaters were closed. In 2004, he got a license to be her legitimate agent and was trying to help her develop a unique performance. In a cold snowy night, when the two huddled in an underpass to wait for the sunrise in order to catch a bus after a long day at a movie shooting site working as extras, she suddenly had the urge to dance in the snow with him. She had used her dance to tell him her story so many times before and this time, after their "dance" ended, he suddenly realized that THIS should be her unique performance. In September 2005, she ran into a 21-year-old young man (Zhai, Xiaowei). He was being trained to be a cyclist for the national special olympics. He had never danced before. He climbed on a tractor when he was 4 years old and fell off it and lost his left leg. His dad asked him, "The doctor will have to amputate your leg. Are you afraid?" He couldn't comprehend what would be so different so he said no. His dad said, "You are going to face many challenges and difficulties in life, are you afraid?" He asked, "What are 'challenges and difficulties?' Do they taste good?" His dad laughed with tears, "Yes, they're like your favorite candies. You just need to eat them one piece at a time!" (Then his dad ran out of the room in tears.) So he's always very optimistic and athletic with a great sense of humor. He had tried high-jump, long-jump, diving, swimming, and just settled on cycling. His coach believed that he would be able to get 2-3 gold medals in the national special Olympics games. (In the video interview, you can see him doing a bridge with great ease!) He initially didn't understand how he could "dance," so Li invited him to see her performing "Hand in Hand" with another male actor. He felt that he saw a perfect soul dancing on the stage and agreed to give it a try. Li & Tao treated him like their younger brother and they stayed under the same roof during the more than 1 year of intensive training and practice. One would not be able to imagine the kind of challenges and difficulties they faced. He had NO dancing background and she is a perfectionist. There are so many touching stories. Much determination has gone into the making of this performance. Just for that one "drop" move at 3:41 of the clip, he landed her on the hard floor more than 1000 times!!! To get the move right, they started at 8 a.m. and got the first successful move shortly after 8 pm! All they did was to train and to practice from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. day-in and day-out until the three of them ran out of money in early 2007 ... The rest is history. In April they were one of the finalists among 7000 competitors in the 4th CCTV national dance competition. It is the first time a handicapped couple ever entered the competition. They won the Silver medal with the 99.17 high score and not to mention the highest audience popular votes. They became an instant national hit.

I didn't write about the show of Lara Fabian I've been at 31.05.
Well, to tell the truth I expected more from the show...
She has amazingly powerful voice and I though the show will be awesome but it wasn't. She made us wait for like an hour and eventually she didn't passed me the drive and emotions I expected from her and I was actually bored. Maybe that's because I expected much more from her live performance... and surely expected to hear my favourite Fabian's songs like "Meu grande amor», «Tango», «Je suis malade», «Adadgio» but she sang only "Je t'ame" from the list of my favourites, and she sang it without much of enthusiasm...

Other weird thing was that she was speaking in french almost all the time! oh c'mon! That makes you feel awkward when you just don't understand a word! why couldn't she speak english... or italian :)
And she actually didn't sing any song in italian! Not even "Caruso"!
The track-list consisted mostly of the songs from her new album.

I liked a song she dedicated to all the mothers, she sang it with a teddy bear and it was kinda cute, I was sort of touched...
I was hoping so much that she will sing Adagio but she didn't. But better this way, cause if she would have sang it the way she sang Je t'ame I'd be disappointed... Meglio così.

Saturday night- the show of living rock'n'roll legend Paul McCartney (one of the Beatles), the Independence concert on the Independence Square in Kiev.

On Saturday 14th June over 350,000 concert goers braved adverse weather conditions as Paul McCartney played the biggest concert in the Ukraine’s history.
Throughout the day the heavy rain and thunder put a question mark over weather the show would even be able to take place but as soon as Paul McCartney took to the stage at 9:30pm, greeting the crowd in Ukrainian, the skies cleared. He kicked off the two and a half hour concert with ‘Drive My Car’ and then performed a show the likes of which Kiev had never seen.

The concert took place in Kiev’s historic Independence Square. The crowds filled all the roads surrounding the square and the concert was shown all around the city on screens that were specially put up for this event. The concert was also beamed live to six major cities across the Ukraine where over 195,000 people came out to watch the show. The show was also broadcast live on Ukraine TV. It’s estimated that the total amount of people that watched the Independence Concert in the Ukraine was more than 20 million.

Paul and his band played 33 songs including some of the world’s most popular hits that have become the soundtrack to so many people’s lives. Paul played hits by The Beatles including ‘All My Loving’, ‘The Long And Winding Road’, ‘Good Day Sunshine’ and ‘Hey Jude’. He played Wings hits such as ‘Jet’, ‘My Love’ and ‘Band On The Run’ and solo songs including ‘Flaming Pie’ and his most recent hit single ‘Dance Tonight’. Show highlights included a version of the Wings track ‘Mrs. Vanderbilt’, which fans had petitioned for Paul to play and of course a storming version of ‘Back In The USSR’. The audience spanned generations and sang along with every word, the massive crowd made an overwhelming sound when they joined in with Paul on ‘Hey Jude’ and the elaborate stage featured some of the biggest screens ever used for an outdoor show as well as lasers and fireworks.

After the audience had thought the show was over, Paul returned to the stage waving a Ukrainian flag before ending the night with an emotional performance of ‘Yesterday’ and rocked up ‘Sgt. Peppers’.

I was really impressed when Paul came out with ukrainian flag and by the fact that he was actually talking to the people in ukrainian!
There was a touching moment when he said "I love you" in such a simple but so affecting way. I actually saw on a video that some girls were crying! like in a good old Beatles times :)

Teens Save Classic Rock

"Like countless parents before him, Steven Tyler is shocked at the music that's been blaring out of his fifteen-year-old son's bedroom lately. But the Aerosmith frontman can hardly disapprove. "I walk by at night and my son is listening to Zeppelin stuff, like 'Black Dog,'" Tyler says. "He's turned all his friends on to Cream, and they're all into [Aerosmith's] Toys in the Attic. I told him, 'I can't believe you're listening to this.'"
Though classic rock is in no danger of edging out emo and hip-hop on most teenagers' playlists, a growing number of kids are also making room for Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. At the same time, electric-guitar sales are soaring, with the cheapest models nearly doubling in sales from 2003 to 2004. "Kids go through hard rock, hip-hop and pop very quickly, and then they're hungry for something else," says E Street Band guitarist and garage-rock DJ Steven Van Zandt -- who gets hundreds of e-mails from teens thanking him for introducing them to bands like the Kinks. "They always end up coming to [classic] rock & roll."

Nine percent of kids ages twelve to seventeen listened to classic-rock radio in any given week in 2005 -- marking a small but significant increase during the past three years -- with a total of 2.3 million teens tuning in each week, according to the radio-ratings company Arbitron. And some markets have seen more dramatic growth: Teen listenership at New York's Q104.3, the nation's largest classic-rock station, has jumped twenty percent since fall 2002. "It really started in the past five years," says Q104.3 DJ Maria Milito. "You get these boys calling to request Hendrix whose voices haven't changed yet." Van Zandt's Underground Garage, heard on 140 radio stations across the country on Sunday nights, draws a third of its audience from listeners under twenty-five.

For teens, not all classic rock is created equal. According to the market-research firm NPD, kids ages thirteen to seventeen bought twenty percent of all Floyd and Zeppelin albums sold from 2002 to 2005, and seventeen percent of Hendrix and Queen discs but accounted for just three percent of Creedence Clearwater Revival sales, six percent of Rolling Stones sales and a paltry one percent of Cat Stevens sales. "There's such a force and power to a band like Zeppelin," says Rhino Records marketing vice president Mike Engstrom, adding that young buyers drove sales for the label's 2003 DVD collection of live Zep.

Young fans' enthusiasm helps evergreen discs such as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and AC/DC's Back in Black sell thousands of copies a week. "Week after week, a whole new group of people are discovering these albums," says Jeff Jones, executive vice president of Sony BMG's reissue label Legacy Recordings.

Veteran artists are also seeing a surprising number of young faces at their concerts; at one Tom Petty show at New York's Jones Beach last June, kids as young as fourteen showed up in packs and sang along fervently. "I don't know how to explain it," Petty says.

"We're now seeing an audience that goes from sixteen to sixty," says Allman Brothers manager Bert Holman. "Kids feel they're seeing something legendary and special." Classic-rock mainstay George Thorogood, meanwhile, has had to change his set lists to accommodate the growing number of kids at his shows. "I've had to clean it up a little bit," he says. "It's like, 'Cocaine Blues'? Maybe not."

Why would kids born in the Nineties turn to timeworn guitar anthems? For all of the vibrant rock recorded in the past ten years -- from pop punk to neogarage to dance rock -- no new, dominant sound has emerged since grunge in the early Nineties. "I can't think of a record recently that blew people's minds," says Jeff Peretz, a Manhattan producer and guitar teacher. "And there aren't really any guitar heroes around anymore. Kids don't come in and say, 'I want to play like John Mayer.'"

"There is such a drought that kids are going back and rediscovering the Who and Sabbath," says Paul Green, who runs the Paul Green School of Rock Music, which has expanded from a single Philadelphia branch in 1998 to schools in twelve other cities.

At the same time, the Internet has made forty-year-old hits as accessible as current chart-toppers. "I started to see this as a real trend when Napster started around 1999," says Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who has two teenage sons. Last year, teens even started believin' again in Journey's power ballads: They pushed the band's 1981 song "Don't Stop Believin' " into iTunes' Top Ten after it popped up during a romantic moment on MTV's wildly popular reality show, Laguna Beach. It has since sold more than 200,000 digital singles. "It makes me so happy that a new generation would embrace something we believed in," says former Journey singer Steve Perry. "Back when we were first successful, we were dissed -- but time has told a different story."

Old rock has become fashionable, too. The years-old couture and thrift-shop vogue for vintage rock T-shirts recently trickled down to mall retailers catering to teens, with Doors and Rolling Stones shirts selling fast at stores such as Hot Topic.

"It's almost a cyclical thing -- as music ages, it can become cool again," says Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis, who covers the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care" on her new solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat. But Lewis also sees a simpler reason for the trend: "It's called classic rock for a reason -- it's classic. It's just really great music."

Sounds pretty similar doesn't it?

n the All-Music Guide, Matthew Greenwald suggests that Led Zeppelin took this riff from "Taurus" by Spirit, stating, "Led Zeppelin (who had toured with Spirit in 1968/1969) used a strikingly similar guitar melody as the basis for their now-classic 'Stairway to Heaven,' again proving that very little in rock & roll is wholly original." [2] "Taurus" is an instrumental track on Spirit's self-titled debut album. The song was recorded was recorded in November of 1967 and the album was released in early 1968, well in advance of "Stairway to Heaven," which was released in November, 1971.

Listener: Speaking of Led Zeppelin, the guitar introduction to your 1967 composition, "Taurus," is a dead ringer for Zeppelin's introduction to "Stairway to Heaven," released in 1971. Did they ever acknowledge their artistic debt to you? They must of known "Taurus," having performed as your warmup band.

Rabdy California (songwriter): Well, if you listen to the two songs, you can make your own judgment. It's an exact... I'd say it was a rip-off. And the guys made millions of bucks on it and never said, "Thank you," never said, "Can we pay you some money for it?" It's kind of a sore point with me. Maybe some day their conscience will make them do something about it. I don't know. There are funny business dealings between record companies, managers, publishers, and artists. But when artists do it to other artists, there's no excuse for that. I'm mad! [laughs]

I go to Lara Fabian show tomorrow so I've decided to find some info about her.

French pop singer Lara Fabian was born in January, 1970, in Etterbeek, Belgium. Raised in north Belgium and Italy by her Flemish father and Sicilian mother, the French, English, Italian and Spanish speaking Lara knew that she wanted to be a performer at an early age.

With singing, dancing, piano, and music lessons to boot, Lara had already begun taking lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels by the age of 8 and continued taking them for the next 10 years. By age 14, Lara had begun performing and writing songs, while her father, a former guitarist and backup vocalist, would accompany her on the guitar.

All the music lessons in the world cannot take all the credit for Lara's musical formation. Lara listened to the radio and was fascinated by such artists as Barbra Streisand and the late Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Listening to this diversity of music influenced Lara's style, who claims that although she is a pop singer, her music is not purely pop -- it varies from classical and rock, to country.

In the years that followed, Lara entered European singing competitions, winning several prizes. She won fourth prize in a prestigious European competition for singing her single "Croire".

Beginning to achieve success and fame in Europe with the release of several hit singles on a French label, Lara felt that she had to leave what she refers to as "conservative" Europe, so that she could be herself and explore who she really is.

When she crossed the Atlantic and moved to Montreal, Quebec right after high school, she simply fell in love with the city and knew that this was to be her next home.

Now motivated to work and start her career in North America, Lara established an independent record label and publishing company.

Under the umbrella of an existing production company, and with the help of her old friend, producer/songwriter Rick Allison, Lara was ready to begin her creative process.

In 1991, Lara released her first album, co-written by Rick Allison and featuring Lara singing in French, and it was a hit. Selling 100,000 copies, it led to Lara touring Quebec in support of her album.

3 years later, Lara followed up her debut album with a second musical effort, entitled Carpe Diem. This album equally did not disappoint. It has sold more than 800,000 copies and was a hit in both Quebec and France.

Lara's 2 previous albums were only an inkling of the success that Lara was yet to achieve. Her third album, 1997's Pure, sold 2 million copies in France alone, and spawned several hit singles.

Among them was the song "La Difference", which was an attempt to end intolerance of other's differences, specifically an end to homophobia. In Europe, the song became an anthem for tolerance.

After extensive touring following the release of each album, Lara released a compilation of her live performances in Quebec and Europe, entitled Lara Fabian Live. The double album landed the number one spot on the French album chart the week it was released.

Disney also asked Lara to sing as the voice of Esmerelda in the French version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Other recognition she has received includes: a wax effigy of Lara at the Grevin Wax Museum of Paris and the Best Selling Benelux Artist at the 1999 World Music Awards.

Sony Music, who got word of Lara's tremendous success in Europe and Quebec, wanted to sign the singer/songwriter to their record label.

She headed for the United States, and recorded her first English album, working with big league producers such as Walter Afanadieff (who has worked with Mariah Carey), Pat Leonard (Madonna) and Brian Rawling (Cher).

Lara doesn't consider herself to be a singer, nor a diva -- she refers to herself as "a songwriter with a voice" -- and with her soulful voice and diverse style, Lara has definitely proven to have crossed many international boundaries.

I never liked Scott so I'm sort of glad that he's out. According to my poll here the next vr singer should be Eric Dover. I voted for him too, but I dont quite believe he's the one who's gonna be the frontman. I also like very much the voice of Rod Jackson, he might fit the band really good. Axl won't agree on that that's for sure and I also doubt the will propose it to him. I think that the best thing for the band will be to find someone unknown but who would fit the band perfectly, not some other famous vocalist just to create another superband for a little time. Anyway, we'll see...

What can I say... I expected more from this movie. I liked the first part, but the second one is not that good at all. I didn't like the plot, I didn't like the characters. It seemed to me that everything looked very artificial and unnatural.

Anyway, the choreography is good and that's the most important thing in this movie (though the choreography in a first part I liked more).

Al Di Meola

Yesterday, 30.03.08, was at the show of Al Di Meola, great jazz fusion and latin jazz guitarist.
I have really good impressions about it. First, Al Di Meola is technically brilliant. Than, I loved an acoustic guitar sound combined with an accordian and cajón (Gumbi actually played something that looked like a wooden box, I found out that it's called cajón, a kind of a drum. In the 1970s cajón was introduced to Flamenco by Paco de Lucía.)
An other thing that I liked was the vocal of Fausto Beccalossi, the musician that played the accordian, I don't know how to explane it, he was just following the melody... beautiful, I really liked that. All together it gave such an unusual mix.

That is my favourite tune, I just love it. They played it at the end of the show and everyone was very excited 'cos it seems to be the most famous tune here as well.
Al Di Meola once played it with Paco de Lucia.

The new album is dedicated to an italian singer Andrea Parodi, so they tried to keep an italian style all the way through the album, it contains actually tunes like "UMBRAS" and "NO POTHO REPOSARE.

After the show...

I enjoyed the show, the music was great, I was in the very first row so I received all the emotions they wanted to transfer and I actually met Al Di Meola himself and all the band after the show.

Al Di Meola was very polite and nice to his fans and that's great when a legend like him is a really easygoing person first of all.

That's the picture he signed for me.

The guys from the band are just awesome! I came to take some pics with them,they found out that I speak italian and I stayed with them for a pretty while just to talk.

That's the masterpiece they've created for me :)

Mystical power of mistletoe and the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe owe itself to the legend of Goddess Frigga and her son Balder. Frigga was the Goddess of Love and her son, Balder, was the God of the Summer Sun. Once, Balder dreamt of his death. He was worried and told his mother about the strange dream. Frigga was worried not only for the life of her son but also for the life on Earth because she knew that without Balder, all life on Earth would come to an end. Thus, she did her utmost to avoid such a mishap and went everywhere and to every being in air, water, fire and earth to extract a promise that they would never harm her son. She was promised safety of her son by every animal and plant under and above the Earth.

However, Loki, the God of Evil, who was the enemy of Balder and always had evil designs in his mind, was aware that there was one plant that Frigga had overlooked. It grew on apple and oak trees and was known as Mistletoe. Thus, Loki made an arrow and placed Mistletoe at its tip. He then beguiled the blind brother of Balder known as Hoder, the God of Winter, and made him shoot this arrow at Balder. Balder immediately was poisoned and died. Everybody was worried as the Earth turned cold and life became dreary. Every creature tried to bring Balder back to life for three days but it was finally Frigga who managed to revive her son with the help of Mistletoe. Her tears on the plant became pearly white berries and she blessed the plant anyone who stands under the mistletoe plant would never be harmed and would be entitled to a kiss as a token of love.

That song always seemed very mistical to me. In fatc the meaning is still unclear, there are so many ways to interpret the lyrics.
"Sometimes you know the words have two meanings..."
Some people believe that in backward lyrics there are satanic messages, as if guys from Led Zeppelin sold their souls to the devil in exchange for "Stairway To Heaven." Supporting this theory is the fact that Jimmy Page bought Aleister Crowley's house in Scotland, which had become a well known Satanic church and was known as "The Toolhouse." In his books, Crowley said that his followers learn to read and speak backwards.

I prefer to believe that this song has something to do with "Lord of the rings", as I've read in "songfacts":
The members of Led Zeppelin were great fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series - as many as 5 of their songs have direct references to Tolkien's literary masterpiece - the most evident song being "Ramble On." It's possible that Stairway to Heaven also makes many references to Tolkien's story. The phrase, "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees" could be a reference to the smoke rings blown by the wizard Gandalf. Some say the song itself was inspired by the novel - and that the lady spoken of in the tale is Lady Galadriel, the Queen of Elves who lives in the golden forest of Lothlorien. In the book, all that glittered around her, was in fact, gold, as the leaves of the trees in the forest of Lothlorien were golden.
Actually, Plant is a great admirer of all mystic things, the old English legends and the writings of the Celts.
He has said in many interviews that he didn't seem to be writing, that something else was moving his pencil for him...

All I can say is that one of my favourite songs fits perfectly to one of my favourite movies :) so I actually do believe that there's a connection...

Guys, it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen for sure!!
I really enjoyed it! Great atmosphere, respect to the audience (the show has started almost in time), drive, music, the band, 2 stages and the fact that I was able to talk to Bryan and Keith Scott and shake their hands made this show totally awesome... :)

We climbed up on the stairs of the stage, so we were on the same level with stage and when Bryan was singing on this part of the stage he was like 2 metres away from me :)

Keith Scott is a great giutarist and I told him that shaking his hand when he was passing by going offstage :) and he actually answered me!!

Going offstage he shaked everyone's hand, there wasn't to much people but still...
The most incredible thing was that when he was passing me by going offstage I started saying "thanks"and he stopped, and I was able to say that the show was awesome, that we love him etc. and thanked for evertyhing, he was holding my hands while I was saying all that things and after that he answered "thank you, sweetheart!"

Bryan Adams (born November 5, 1959) is a successful Canadian singer and songwriter. He was born in Kingston, Ontario to British parents, and moved with his parents throughout Europe and the Middle East.
Adams was given his first guitar at age ten, bought his first electric guitar at age 11 and at age 14 moved to Vancouver and started auditioning as a guitarist. He left school at 15, joined a band as a singer and went on the road. He met drummer Jim Vallance in 1977 and the two began collaborating as songwriters, and before long their material was being covered by many artists. A&M Records was sent some demos and signed Adams to a recording contract at age 18.
He has released 14 albums since then.
In 1990 he joined many other guests (including Michael Kamen) for Roger Waters' massive performance of The Wall in Berlin. Apart from that he is engaged in many charity projects like Greenpeace's 'Saving the Whales' or Amnesty International. He recently joined Canada's benefit concert for the tsunami victims.
One of his most popular success was the album Waking Up the Neighbours in 1991 (see 1991 in music), produced by Mutt Lange and featuring the ballad '(Everything I Do) I Do It for You'. This song was a huge #1 hit around the world. Other soundtrack songs were 'Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?' from Don Juan de Marco; and 'All For Love' from The Three Musketeers, performed with Rod Stewart and Sting. Adams has been nominated for three Academy Awards.
His musical career also includes several collaborations and duets, e.g. with Tina Turner in 'It's Only Love', Sarah McLachlan in 'Don't Let Go', Mel C. in 'When you're Gone', Chicane in 'Don't Give Up', and the aforementioned collaboration on 'All For Love'.

27.11 I was on Enrique Iglesias' show. That was fun. He sang all the hits I like (Bailamos, Could I have this kiss forever...). I actually go crazy about his dad- Julio Iglesias, he has very beautiful voice, but there are also some songs of Iglesias junior that I really like. Those latin-american mostly...
About the show itself- it was promo tuor for his new album Insomniac. For sure it was not the best show I've seen... We had to wait almost 3 hours (!). My god... I was ready to go home actually!
Anyway, I'm kinda positive persone so I'll say that in general I had a good time :) especially when they played Knocking on heaven's door...

But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go

any further after that. There is no such thing as cold . Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of

heat . We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy . Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it .

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright

light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In

reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.

Now tell me, Professor.Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The class is in uproar.)

Meat Loaf unfortunately came down with a bout of laryngitis on the eve of the awards. In Meat Loaf’s absence his daughter, Pearl Aday, picked up the Classic Album award for her father’s 1977 epic Bat Out of Hell, which even now sells approximately 200,000 copies a year and is estimated to have exceeded 34 million sales worldwide in total.

In the Classic Rock Readers’ Awards, Kiss picked up the Reissue Of The Year gong for their Alive! 1975-2000 box-set, which was collected by Velvet Revolver/Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan.

Rush were honoured as Band Of The Year.

Aerosmith's appearance at Hyde Park Calling was voted the Event Of The Year, pipping the favourite – Keith Richards snorting his Dad's ashes – to the top spot.

And the Frank Zappa Classic Albums DVD picked up DVD Of The Year and was collected by none other than Alice Cooper.

Yesterday I was at Suzi Quatro's concert.
First part of the show was dedicated to her new album "Back to the drive" (which I'm sure I'm gonna get beacuse I really liked the songs) and the second part was like all the rock'n'roll hits back from 1970... For the 2 part she came out dressed in a black leather with her red bass guitar... very "rock'n'roll" :)

Using pumpkins as lanterns at Halloween is based on an ancient traditions and also a leggend about Jack-O-Lantern. Here it is...

"A stingy drunkard of an Irish blacksmith named Jack had the misfortune to run into the Devil in a pub, some say on Halloween night. Jack had too much to drink and was about to fall into the Devil's hands, but managed to trick the Devil by offering his soul in exchange for one last drink. The Devil turned himself into a sixpence to pay the bartender, but Jack quickly pocketed him in his purse. Because Jack had a silver cross in his purse, the Devil could not change himself back. Jack would not let the Devil go until he promised not to claim his soul for ten years.

The Devil agreed and ten years later Jack came across the Devil while walking on a country road. The Devil wanted to collect, but Jack, thinking quickly, said "I'll go, but before I go, will you get me an apple from that tree?" The Devil, thinking he had nothing to lose, jumped on Jack's shoulders to obtain the apple. Jack pulled out his knife and carved a cross in the trunk of the tree. This left the Devil in the air, unable to obtain Jack or his soul. Jack made him promise to never again ask for his soul. Seeing no way out, the Devil agreed.

When Jack finally died years later, he was not admitted to Heaven, because of his life of drinking and being tightfisted and deceitful. When he went to apply for entrance to Hell, the Devil had to turn him away because he agreed never to take Jack's soul. "But where can I go?", asked Jack. "Back where you came from!", replied the Devil. The way back was windy and dark. Jack pleaded with the Devil to at least provide him a light to find his way. The Devil, as a final gesture, threw a live coal at Jack straight from the fire of Hell. To light his way and to keep it from blowing out in the wind, Jack put it in a turnip he was eating.

Ever since, Jack has been doomed to wander in darkness with his lantern until "Judgment Day." Jack of the lantern (Jack o'Lantern) became known as the symbol of a damned soul."

The Dirty Mac were an English supergroup consisting of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell that Lennon put together for The Rolling Stones' ill-fated TV special entitled The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Recorded on 11 December 1968, this was the first time that Lennon, who was still with The Beatles, had performed in public without the other Beatles. You know, I appreciated VR's true value only after I've stopped comparing them with original GNR band...

Yesterday I bought "Libertad". I think it's a great album and it's absolutely worth buying. Music is great, vocals are great, Slash's solos are great... (Slash is always great :))

"Libertad" supposed to be conceptual and actually it is, like Scott Weiland said in 10-minute video documentary called "Re-Evolution: The Making of Libertad". He said the concept is liberty- the eternal search for freedom and willingness to fight for it...

I really like "Gas and a Dollar Laugh", hidden track in "Gravedancer" (which I also like very much).

Other song I like are "She builds quick machines", "Last fight" and E.L.O cover "Can't get it out of my head" (this song was first time released on E.L.O's fourth album, Eldorado, in 1974).

Yesterday I was at ELO's (the Orchestra) concert here in Kiev. Live concert is always great, especially when it's a show of classic fantastic bands. So I really had a great time :)

Great show. This little lamps at the scene reflected on the mirror floor looked like stars in the space.

Even after 35 years this guys know how to rock the audience :) Great music and amazing vocals. I'd describe the genre as pop, progressive and futuristic rock, also electronic.

Gordon Townsend- drummer for ELO since 1999.

Phil Bates- lead guitarist and backing vocalist for ELO Part II from 1993 through to 1998.

Twist and shout was originally recorded by the Topnotes and then covered by Isley Brothers and was later covered by The Beatles, with John Lennon on the lead vocals. the Mamas & the Papas made it in the style of a ballad in 1967. Very nice cover was made by ELO.

That's my favourite ELO song. The story of a man taken in the future by time travellers, who misses his home and the woman he left there...

""Private Investigations" is a popular song by Dire Straits from their album Love over Gold. Although it was not released as a single in the US, it reached #2 in the UK, and is one of their biggest chart successes in the United Kingdom, on a par with "Walk of Life". Similarly, the album it came from, Love over Gold, only sold 0.5 million copies in the US, though it was well-received elsewhere.
The song begins with a slow piano riff accompanying an acoustic guitar. After several verses, the song opens up into a slow, bass-driven beat, with an electric guitar coming in at the end, before the gradual diminuendo.
On the Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits DVD, Mark Knopfler said this about the song: "It's just about the Private Investigations... "What have you got at the end of the day" - Nothing more than you started out with..." It is said the song was inspired by author Michael Crichton."

That's my favourite song of Dire Straits. I still remeber what I felt when I first time heard it late in the evening in the car... I was very impressed, great song.
